Guitar lessons for kids in Hong Kong, without the group-class noise

One child, one teacher, one room — 45 minutes where your child is the only student who needs attention.

Group guitar classes are cheap for a reason: with eight children and one teacher, most of the hour is waiting. Children who are quiet, or who fall behind for two weeks, quietly stop. Private lessons solve that, and at K-D Studio the room is set up for it.

What the first month looks like

Children need three things before technique matters: an instrument that fits them, a song they actually like, and a win in the first two weeks. So the first lessons cover holding the guitar without tension, one-finger and two-finger chords, and a simple version of something they chose. Scales and reading come after, when the habit exists.

Instrument size

Most 6–8 year olds need a 1/2 or 3/4 size classical guitar; 9–12 year olds usually fit a 3/4 or full-size, depending on arm length. If you have not bought one yet, come to the trial first — buying the wrong size is the most common reason a child gives up.

Practice expectations

Ten focused minutes, five days a week, beats an hour on Sunday. We give a written practice card each week so parents are not guessing, and we adjust it if school workload spikes.

For parents comparing options

If you are choosing between a group class and private lessons, the honest trade-off is cost against attention. A group class is fine for a child who is socially confident and already keen. Private lessons are the better fit for a beginner who needs the teacher's eyes on their hands, or for a child preparing for a school performance or graded exam.

Questions people ask

What age can my child start guitar?

Six is usually the earliest for a classical guitar, because of hand size and the ability to sit with the instrument. Five-year-olds are better served by ukulele for a year first.

Do parents stay during the lesson?

For the first month, yes — it helps you support practice at home. After that most children focus better alone.

How much are kids guitar lessons?

The same as adult lessons: HK$600 for 60 minutes, HK$4,800 for eight lessons. A 45-minute option is available for younger children at a lower rate — ask at the trial.

My child has never played anything. Is that a problem?

No. Most start from zero. The trial lesson is designed to see whether your child can focus for 30 minutes and enjoy it.

Is the studio easy to reach?

It is in North Point, about five minutes on foot from North Point MTR exit A1, on Java Road.
